Any other Milwaukee Fuel fans on here?
- Quote
Postby nerd86 »
Part of owning a 20 year old Jetta TDI is being able to work on it yourself. Anyway, my DeWault impact finally let go on me. I used this as an excuse to finally covert over to Milwaukee. I picked up the new M18 1/2" gen 2 mid-torque impact, and the extended reach 3/8 M12 ratchet. Used them both the other day while doing a few things to the car including replacing the starter. Love them already!
I am looking for a good Milwaukee light now. I will be installing a transfer switch for my generator next which will require me to shut off the main. I also will be doing it in the middle of the night while everyone is asleep and not needing any power. There are a few different lights Milwaukee offers and figured I would ask if anyone on here has any experience with them.
Thanks.

I picked up a Fuel Brushless 1/2” impact gun this spring. It is a beast!
Most recently, removed the cab mounting bolts on my 2013 pickup to remove/replace the old running boards. Like a hot knife through butter.

Earned 43 (and counting) credit hours of financial planning related education from a regionally accredited university, but I am not your advisor.

this sounds like it must be the high torque impact...2767-20. I was very tempted, but the new mid-torque won me over.

That’s the one.

I'm an M12 Fuel guy myself. I rarely have the need for more power than they provide, and on the few occasions that I do, I go corded or air. But I get to enjoy lighter tools every time I use them, and the variety is great. That said, I may expand into the M18 lineup at some point, because there are some unique tools there too. I currently have a hammer drill, two impact drivers (standard and right-angle), two ratchets (3/8 and 1/2), sawzall, light, and heated jacket.
The M18 equivalent of the light I have is this one. Works great for working on/under the car, behind the TV I was installing earlier this week, and I even use it when grilling at night. This floodlight looks really cool too, and is free if you buy a combo kit.

Makita track saw, everything else is Milwaukee M18. My favorite is the M18 hydraulic drill driver and my wife's the blower.

I'm a huge fan of the M18 system. I did have one dud, however. The "cheap", not brushless, not listed as "Fuel", 6 1/2" circular saw was a huge dud. I read the reviews about not being able to make a straight cut and figured it was an isolated issue. Nope. I literally could not cut straight, even on a 6" crosscut.
I ended up getting the 7 1/4" Fuel branded saw and this thing rocks.
My other favorite tool is the Hackzall. Small enough to get in more places than a Sawzall, but still pretty strong.
My other tools: 2 drills (one Fuel, one not). Fuel Impact Driver. Small countertop vacuum. And leaf blower. The blower is very simple but works really well. I haven't used my old 2-cycle gas blower since I got this. You do need the large battery for it however, and it isn't cheap.
I do some volunteer work and my fellow volunteers have learned to grab my tools.

I got the 2131-20 over the holidays -- it's the M18 tower light. List price is $199 but it was part of a promotion at the time that included a free 8 Ah battery. Promotions happen all the time with Milwaukee tools... the Garage Journal Hot Deals section has a thread on just this topic.
Anyway, the 2131 is large, even when collapsed, but has been incredibly useful in the last couple of weeks. 2500 lumens is a lot of light but you don't want to skimp if you're going to be working in the dark.
My other Milwaukee light is the 2363-20. It's much smaller, only puts out 700 lumens, but has a USB port so you can also charge your phone. Great for keeping around in case of power outages, especially if you have several M18 batteries sitting around.
I have a place on 15 acres of heavily wooded land in the mountains, so I use a lot of the outdoor tools. The chainsaw, pole saw, hedge trimmer and weed whacker are all great. I use the leaf blower way more than I expected... saves a ton of time just for cleaning out the garage.

My son is a rep for them. I have tried a few demonstration tools out. Fabolous. I have a M18 blower and hand tools. A favorite is the Headband Light. Frees up both hands and is extremely bright.

Heck yea! Just tried to get a combo that included the 3 1/2 framing nailer but it sold out while I was entering in my credit card info.
Love their lights...
Lantern
360 degree light + has USB charger to charge devices.

Tower Light
Comes in handy more than I thought. Power goes out and that lights up a room or makes it easy to setup generator in the dark. Recently had to use it outside to assembly a trampoline Christmas even.

Flood Light
I grab this the most for quick lighting - think under the car or running outside.

I like the 2365-20 the best (https://www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-Electr ... B078VHZLNC), though I use the flood light most (since it is what my work gives me) and it is fine.
But the 2365-20 has magnets which are great for positioning and a multiturn head that allows you to direct the light to exactly where you need it. Also has a clamp feature that allows for clamping to studs, rafters or other non-magnetic locations.
Great for basem*nts, stick it to the I-Beam and light up wherever you want. Nice and compact to boot.

I used the M12 version of this over the holidays when doing some electrical work on an old house - very useful and portable.
It goes without saying, but watch out for little sharp things getting stuck to the magnets. I accidentally got stuck by a tack that got picked up by the light.

An anecdote: I was watching "Gold Rush" (program about gold mining in the Yukon) and the miners had an equipment breakdown. The mechanic took the showed up to fix it and took the bolts out with... wait for it... a Fuel impact gun just like mine.

I own the M18 2804 fuel drill, 1/4" impact driver, search light, blower, weed trimmer, hedge trimmer, radio, and the M12 inflator. I'll be buying the M18 chainsaw soon. Very impressed with the Milwaukee products!
